What is the difference?
First I thought that it was going to be an easy question to answer:
Art is something you can look at, the artist expresses his/her feelings or wish to bring out specific feelings for the viewer. And design is something you can use, something designed for a purpose.
But after comparing different pieces like this:
I am not so sure any more, design can look awfully like art. Some designs are created in a way that they are totally useless, and then I feel it is closer to the category art than design.
Both an artist and a designer use their creativity to create, and I guess both of them wish to interfere with peoples feelings. A designer have to influence peoples feelings in a positive way, because the goal is to sell a product witch people can use. While an artist may try to provoke the public or just to express their own feelings.
After doing some research I can see that the term design-art are being mentioned several places and it looks like people then refer to pieces more in the direction of graphic design. Maybe graphic design is the style we get when vi combine art and design?
